Why study abroad?
Outside the Guardian office in London, May 2010
Going overseas had been just a retirement dream until Dr. Mike Weigold graciously invited me to join the study-abroad program he runs for the four departments in the College of Journalism and Communications.
Studying abroad has enlarged my world. I have a much better grasp of how America differs from Europe in politics and world view. And I understand international issues in a way I never did before.
As a teacher, the study-abroad trips are magical. I get to know students at a different level and am better able to understand their perspective and thus improve my teaching.
